Holy Trinity Cathedral

Holy Trinity Cathedral is the spiritual centre and  ‘mother church’ for the this Diocese. It is also a significant place of gathering for the people of Auckland and beyond.  With over 100,000 people visiting the Cathedral every year it is not only a place of worship but also a tourist attraction,  venue for community events, learning and arts.  The Holy Trinity Cathedral hosts funerals for dignitaries such as Sir Edmund Hillary and national memorial services such as for the Pyke River tragedy.  It is the third biggest community venue in Auckland after the Bruce Mason Centre and Auckland Town Hall. Selwyn’s Vision – Let’s finish what history started

Selwyn’s Vision is a $12 million project to complete the Cathedral, and work on this project has begun in June 2014. There are three key components to the project.
  • The building of The Bishop Selwyn Chapel – to be located behind the High Altar.
  • The relocation and rebuilding of the Cathedral organ, which will also include the removal of the bridge in the Cathedral.
  • Development of the historic St Mary’s-in-Holy Trinity which includes the restoration of pair of the 105 year old George Croft organ, improvement of access to St Mary’s, a covered link between St Mary’s and Holy Trinity and the redesign of St Mary’s Court.
