Farewell to Jacolize Becker

We are saying goodbye to our Children and Family Ministries Facilitator, Jacolize Becker, this week as she finishes with the diocese after five and a half years. We’re grateful for all the care and expertise she has given our ministry units, through one-on-one visits, training workshops, camps, and in supporting and advocating for Children and Family Ministries leaders.

During her time with us, Jacolize pioneered our annual diocesan Summer Adventure Weekend in January, our Junior Discipleship camp and our Children and Family Ministries leaders’ cluster. Jacolize has been an exceptional trainer, offering us workshops on subjects such as: vision and strategy, engaging with your community, safety, developing volunteers, and growing an intergenerational faith community. She has travelled to the far north and south of our diocese to offer her support and resources to rural ministry units and local shared ministry units. She has been a regular presenter and participant at our LSM Collaborative Ministry Conference.
Jacolize is convinced that intergenerational ministry is the future of our Church and has written, preached, and led workshops on this as well as modelling it in her own ministry. She led the intermediate programme at our diocesan youth camp (E-Fest), invited families to stay for the first day of Junior Camp to have fun together, and gathered young and old at our diocesan Summer Adventure Camp. Jacolize also went ‘above and beyond’ during lockdown this year, producing weekly faith resources for families. Our Mission and Ministry team will miss her kindness and generosity to us all.
Jacolize is moving on to work for Sports Chaplaincy New Zealand as their Regional Leader for Auckland North. Sports chaplaincy has long been Jacolize’s passion; she trained as a sports chaplain eight years ago and has been published in an international publication on the subject of bringing generations together through sport. She goes with our blessing.
