Junior Youth Camp – what a blast!

Junior Youth Camp is a holiday camp for schoolchildren in Years 6 to 9, organised by the diocese’s Children and Family Ministries team. This year’s camp kicked off on Sunday 6 October with a fun family session on Long Bay Beach. All the parents, grandparents and siblings joined in the games, team races and challenges.

The next day’s activities included exploring marine life and learning to kayak surf, with guidance from the instructors at the Sir Peter Blake Marine Education and Recreation Centre (MERC). On the last day there was time for a picnic lunch and more games on the beach.

The theme was ‘In the making’ and campers explored aspects of King David’s life as told in the Bible to learn how they are growing to become the person God made them to be.

After two short days, it was time to say goodbye, after reflecting on the highlights of camp. Some of the feedback comments from campers:

“I feel spiritually stronger because… we were in community and worked together.”
“One thing I learned at camp was… to try new things.”
“I will tell others about camp because… it’s great to meet new people, make new friends and grow bigger in your relationship with God.”

Children and Family Ministries Facilitator Jacolize Becker said the camp was all her team had hoped and prayed for. “We are so grateful to have had this amazing time with a group of great kids and leaders.”

Year 6 to 9 children and their leaders enjoyed a great time at Junior Youth Camp.
