Synod 2020

Synod Postponed

COVID-19 alert level restrictions mean that Synod cannot take place in the usual way this year. Part of the Auckland Diocese went to Level 3 and part to Level 2 for a fortnight from Wednesday 12 August, with possible extensions. This means that gatherings of more than 100 cannot take place for the foreseeable future.
This initial session of this year’s Synod will now be held via Zoom on Saturday 5 September from 9.30am.
Some procedural matters will be dealt with to allow Synod to take place in this form. A bill to increase the number of trustees on the Auckland City Mission Trust Board will be tabled but all other bills and motions and the Yearbook reports will ‘lie on the table’ until Synod can reconvene in person later in the year to consider them. Elections of three clergy and two lay people to the Diocesan Council will also be managed online.
Pre-synod meetings have been cancelled.
