The Healthy Church model we aim to live by across the Diocese, encourages us to live beyond ourselves. So, over the past three or so years we have been encouraging youth groups, and young people to join their parishes in the Big Mission Home. A fundraising walk in support of much needed funds for the Auckland City Mission. This year there were options to walk 17km, 10km and more.
This is a growing event for the Auckland City Mission, and it is rather wonderful to see our churches getting involved so deeply. The competition for sponsorship was entertaining to watch between a few of our churches, in addition to the actual day cheering each group coming in, tired, sore, but happy.
The crew at the Auckland City Mission deeply appreciate our parishes support and made sure each person who came through those doors knew it. There was kai and drinks for all and some kind sponsors had ensured no one left empty handed.
This event is also a great opportunity for people of all ages to walk together, share some adventures along the way (one youth group went swimming this year…) talking and sharing life, building community memories.
Maybe you’ll and your parish will join us next year…!
