Disability Awareness Sunday in 2024 is June 16. This year’s theme is Hei Hanga ana e te rangatiratanga ā te Atua: Tūmanakohia te ohorere – Building the Kingdom of God: Expect the unexpected.
The Disability Ministry Educators have published some liturgical and theme resources and activities that can be used on Disability Awareness Sunday, or also at other times. They write:
“Disabled people are often considered having nothing much to contribute to community. However disabled people face many challenges living in the world not built for us. Through this process we develop skills such as teamwork, adaptability and creativity which are vital in community building. Celebrate the skills that we all bring to building the Kingdom of God in the places where we are! Tūmanakohia te ohorere! Expect the unexpected!”
