Children and Young Persons Safeguarding

The Anglican Diocese of Auckland is committed to safeguarding the physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual wellbeing of children and young people. The protection of children and young people from harm is a primary duty, and all parishes, and all persons within our parishes, must fully observe the requirements of applicable civil and Church legislation.

The purpose of the children and young people safeguarding policy and procedures are to ensure that all leaders and parishes operate in ways that promote safety and prevent harm. The policy should be read in conjunction with the diocesan Children and Young Persons Safeguarding Procedures and other supporting documentation.

Policy & Procedures

A parish should:

  • Appoint a Parish Child Safeguarding Officer
  • Be familiar with the Children and Young Persons Safeguarding Policy and Procedures.

Help and support

Parish Child Safeguarding Officers may call or text Sonia Maugham, Diocesan Child Safeguarding Officer on 021 984 757 for any matters relating to concerns of child abuse or disclosures/reports of abuse.

Complaints Procedure

No form of abuse, harassment, bullying and discrimination is tolerated in the Auckland Diocese. If you have experienced abuse or harassment yourself, or seen it happening to someone else, you have a right to speak out and be heard. Your complaints and concerns will be taken seriously and handled confidentially.
