The St John’s College Trust Board (SJCTB) bulk funds the diocese to administer its own scholarship process for academic study as well as for sabbatical funding.
Sabbatical leave
Permission to take sabbatical leave must be obtained by applying to the Ministry Educator’s office. See the Financial Regulations Statute (clause 34) for details. Sabbatical applications should be made at least three months in advance of the intended leave. Clergy wanting to apply for sabbatical leave should contact Sarah Moss.
Sabbatical funding
Clergy seeking funding for a sabbatical project apply via the online sabbatical scholarship application form. Sabbatical funding may be sought in the same calendar year as the sabbatical is taken.
Important dates
The first sabbatical funding round for the year opens in February and closes in March, with results available at the end of May.
A second funding round opens in May and closes in July. Results will be out at the end of August.

The diocesan Scholarship Committee receives scholarship applications and awards scholarships on behalf of Diocesan Council. Applicants are notified and funds are paid directly to the recipients. Multiyear scholarship recipients need to apply for a continuation each year.

Laity wishing to apply for a scholarship are welcome to contact the Diocesan Lay Ministry Developer Karen Spoelstra.
The scholarship funding round opens on 1 May and closes on 31 July for scholarships for the following year. Applicants will be notified of application outcomes by the end of August. Any delays will be advised ahead of time.
