Diocesan Archives

The Anglican Diocese of Auckland Archives is a gateway to some of New Zealand’s oldest colonial treasures, some of which predate the Treaty of Waitangi.
The Archive/Te Whare Kahurangi is a collaborative venture resulting from a partnership of the Anglican Diocese of Auckland and Te Pīhopatanga o te Tai Tokerau.  The Archive preserves and manages Anglican documents, collateral and mulitmedia covering the period 1815 to present day.  A research facility is available by appointment to the general public.
Expect to find archival treasures such as original baptism registers brought to New Zealand by the first missionaries, a ledger from 1835 penned by Bishop George Augustus Selwyn, marriage/burial registers; bishops and clergy files; even records from early orphanages, schools and institutions such as the Auckland City Mission.
Archive hours – by appointment only
Monday 8.00am – 5.00pm Tuesday to Thursday 8.00am to 1.00pm Closed – Friday, public holidays, Easter Tuesday and the first Friday of September for Synod.
